The hospital
Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University was founded in 1952 as the Beijing Soviet Red Cross Hospital, the first large general hospital established by the new government after 1949. It is today a municipal tertiary Grade A general hospital, the national clinical research centre for digestive diseases, and rated A+ in China's national tertiary public hospital performance evaluation. It was one of the earliest hospitals in China to take on foreign-patient services.
Dental care
Dentistry here is unusually well resourced for a general hospital. The Department of Stomatology runs 13 dental treatment disciplines, among them oral and maxillofacial surgery, general dental treatment, prosthodontics, orthodontics, implant dentistry, paediatric dentistry, periodontics, temporomandibular joint disorders, dental emergency, and international and VIP dental clinics. It has 151 dental chairs, a 15-bed inpatient maxillofacial ward, and more than 200 clinical staff including 24 chief or associate chief physicians.
Visiting as a foreign patient
Each of the Xicheng and Tongzhou campuses runs an International Medical Centre, an international health check-up centre and an international aesthetic medicine centre. The centre states that its treating physicians can handle more than one foreign language, that it provides a 24-hour English telephone consultation service, and that it works with domestic and international medical insurers. Book through the city health app, the 114 platform, the hospital's WeChat account, the International Medical Centre's own WeChat account, or by telephone.
