Most full treatments run from about 18 months to 2.5 years. The length depends on how much movement the teeth need and how much growth is still to come. Adult treatment takes roughly the same time as treatment started in adolescence, but occasionally finishes faster because growth is complete.

Both can treat most cases. Fixed braces are more precise for complex tooth movements and complex bite corrections; clear aligners are removable and less visible but require discipline to wear the full number of hours. Your orthodontist will recommend one based on your bite rather than on preference alone.

Adjustments are normally every 4-6 weeks. That is the reason orthodontic treatment is usually started at home and the trip timed around the main fitting, rather than the whole course being done abroad. A hybrid plan, where the appliance is fitted in China and reviews are done at home, is often the most practical.

Teeth can move back towards their original position after treatment. A retainer is essential, and the first year of retainer wear matters most. Retention is lifelong, though check-ups after that can often be less frequent.

The fitting visit is the main one, but you will still need periodic adjustments and a retainer fitted at the end. Discuss in advance how reviews will be arranged - some clinics can coordinate with an orthodontist near your home, and it is better to have that agreed before treatment starts than after.
