The hospital
The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University is a major tertiary Grade 3A academic hospital in Guangzhou. Its Stomatology department runs a comprehensive outpatient dental service alongside an inpatient oral and maxillofacial ward, seeing roughly 80,000 outpatients and admitting over 1,000 patients a year, with about 1,000 operations annually. The department has 36 dental chairs and 42 ward beds, staffed by 28 doctors and 29 nurses, including 7 professors and 8 associate professors.
Dental care
Outpatient care covers caries and pulpitis, periodontitis, correction of dentition deformity, and oral implantation. Inpatient surgical work addresses oral and maxillofacial tumours, trauma, bone fracture, and maxillofacial deformities and defects. That split matters if your treatment is likely to need a hospital stay rather than a chair visit: one team can keep the oral surgery and the ward care together.
Visiting as a foreign patient
The hospital runs an International Medicine service that assists with registration and appointments, result enquiry and medical check-ups, and has carried out cross-border tele-consultations. It publishes an English-language section of its website with a doctors directory. Register for International Medicine by phone at (020) 87332200-8225, Monday to Friday, 7:50-11:30am and 2:20-5:00pm. Bring your passport, and ask about interpreter support and payment when you book, since no direct-billing insurer list or interpreter service is listed anywhere.
