The hospital
The Hospital of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University, also known as Guanghua School of Stomatology, is a national-level dental hospital under the National Health Commission, founded in 1974 on the original site of the 1908 Guangdong Guanghua Medical School. It is a dedicated dental specialty hospital rather than a general hospital, running three campuses (Yuexiu, Tianhe and Nansha, the last still under construction) with 720 dental units, 120 inpatient beds, 14 clinical departments and 8 medical technical departments.
Dental care
An International Dental Medical Center acts as the hospital's high-end dental service platform. It covers endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, dental and alveolar surgery, prosthodontics, orthodontics, implantology, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral medicine and preventive dentistry, with multidisciplinary treatment, nitrous oxide sedation and end-to-end digital dentistry across 13 treatment rooms including 4 comfort-oriented suites. Two departments stand out for size: prosthodontics, one of China's first seven national key clinical specialties in the field in 2011 and the largest such centre in South China, with 25 consultation rooms, 70 dental chairs and 53 doctors; and Implant Dentistry, with 73 dental units and 16 implant operating rooms.
Visiting as a foreign patient

The centre holds direct billing agreements with major international insurance providers and runs exclusive weekend clinics for cross-border patients, useful if you are flying in and cannot attend on a weekday. Bring your passport for registration, and ask your insurer to confirm your policy is on the direct-billing list before you travel.
