The hospital
This is a dedicated dental specialty hospital, a Grade 3A stomatological hospital and the first in Jiangsu Province, and it is both the stomatology hospital and school of Nanjing Medical University. It reports around 950 staff, 15 first-level clinical departments, 200 authorised beds and over one million outpatient visits a year. Four of its departments, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics and orthodontics, are national key clinical specialities.
The hospital also trades under the name Jiangsu Provincial Stomatological Hospital, and is known in some listings as Nanjing Stomatological Hospital. Its main hospital address is on Hanzhong Road in the Gulou district of Nanjing, and Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital separately states that the Dental Medical Center at its Jiangbei campus is run by Nanjing Stomatological Hospital.
Dental care
The hospital runs a Senior Expert Diagnosis and Treatment Centre, a designated VIP clinic for Taiwan compatriots in Jiangsu and for corporate VIP programmes. It is staffed entirely by chief physicians and offers one-stop booking, registration, examination, treatment, payment and pharmacy, covering endodontics, oral medicine, periodontics, prosthodontics and dentoalveolar surgery. Its fifteen first-level clinical departments give the hospital full coverage of the dental specialities, so you can be referred from a general clinic to a specialist one within the same site.
Visiting as a foreign patient
The hospital runs an all-appointment system with time-slot visits, and its official registration notice lists a passport among the accepted identity documents, so you can register as a foreign patient. Booking opens daily at 14:30 for the following week and at 06:00 for remaining same-day slots, through the hospital's WeChat account, the Nanjing and Jiangsu medical insurance apps, or on-site self-service kiosks. Appointments can be cancelled free of charge until 24:00 the day before, and missing two appointments blocks online booking for 30 days. There is no published English-language service or interpreter arrangement, so assume Chinese-language service and arrange your own interpreter or translation.
