The hospital
Peking Union Medical College Hospital is the best-known tertiary Grade A general hospital in China. It grew out of the Rockefeller Foundation's medical school and has long been treated as the country's benchmark for complex and difficult cases. It sits in Beijing and admits international patients through its own International Medical Department.
Dental care
The Department of Stomatology dates from 1922 and today has nine subspecialty groups, among them oral and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, implant dentistry, paediatric dentistry, oral mucosal disease and a painless dental treatment centre. It works across roughly 60 dental chairs. That painless dental treatment centre is a national pioneer in sedation dentistry and care for patients with dental phobia, and the department also runs a dental VIP clinic alongside its general clinics.
Visiting as a foreign patient
Foreign patients are usually seen through the International Medical Department, which has its own outpatient clinic, emergency service and inpatient wards and covers more than 30 clinical specialties, dentistry among them. Its features include appointments with named specialists, commercial-insurance direct billing, 24-hour emergency care and health management. Book by telephone through the department's appointment line, or through the hospital's own app, which also carries an English version.
