The hospital
Peking University Shenzhen Hospital is a modern Grade 3A public general hospital built by the Shenzhen municipal government and brought under Peking University's affiliated-hospital management system in 2000. It opened at the end of 1999 and sits in Futian, close to the city centre, with a total floor area of nearly 220,000 square metres.
Dental care
The Dental Medicine Centre was founded in 2001 and holds ten sub-specialties, including oral and maxillofacial surgery, implant surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, periodontics, oral medicine and paediatric dentistry. It reports 50 inpatient beds and 70 dental treatment chairs, around 200,000 outpatient visits a year, and more than 150 doctors and nurses, over 90% of whom hold a master's degree or higher. CBCT, a chairside CAD/CAM system, root-canal microscopes and intraoral scanners are all on site, so single-visit digital restorations are possible.
Visiting as a foreign patient
The hospital's VIP clinic dates back to 1999 and is a designated point of care for foreign visitors and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots, on the 6th floor of the outpatient building. It states that it provides "guaranteed-payment and cashless direct billing with a number of domestic and international insurance companies". Ask your insurer to confirm your policy is covered, and confirm the arrangement with the clinic, before you travel. The dental centre runs on the hospital's standard outpatient booking system. Interpretation is not formally offered, so bring a Chinese-speaking companion and your passport.
Practical notes
