The hospital

Renji Hospital was founded in 1844 and describes itself as the first hospital practising Western medicine in Shanghai after the city opened as a treaty port. It is a comprehensive Grade 3A hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine with four campuses — east, west, north and south — plus the Shanghai Cancer Institute. The four campuses have 2,750 approved beds and 54 clinical departments, with 4,780 full-time staff including 714 senior and associate senior experts.

Visiting as a foreign patient

Renji publishes a dedicated English-language international site carrying the strapline "Beyond Borders Within Care", with sections on preparing for a first appointment, featured healthcare solutions, locations and contact, and a Find a Renji Doctor A-Z search with department filters. That search is the easiest way to shortlist a clinician before you make contact, and the preparation section covers what to have ready for your first appointment.

Practical notes

The east campus is in the Lujiazui financial and trade zone in Pudong, the west campus in the Huangpu central business district next to the Bund, the south campus in Pujiang Town, Minhang District, and the north campus at the junction of Juye Road and Lingshan Road. The hospital runs four campuses across Shanghai in total, so check which one your appointment is at.
