The department

The Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University is a Grade 3A general hospital on Sanxiang Road in Suzhou, Jiangsu, with dentistry operating as a full stomatology department rather than a hospital of its own. What stands out is how surgical it is: of the eight dentists it names, three are head and neck tumour surgeons, and a fourth does complex implant and prosthetic rehabilitation alongside tumour surgery. The scale is concrete — 29 imported chairs and 10 oral surgery beds, divided between two campuses.

Surgery and implants

Oncology and defect reconstruction are the centre of gravity, with named expertise in parotidectomy, resection of oral and maxillofacial tumours, and reconstruction of the resulting defects. Fixed and removable dentures, anterior cosmetic restoration, orthodontics and difficult root canal treatment sit alongside.

Equipment list

The kit is unusually surgical for a dental department. A Kavo cone-beam CT handles implant and surgical planning; a Stryker endoscopic system supports minimally invasive fixation of mandibular fractures, backed by Medicon orthognathic instruments and an AO internal fixation system. Restoratively there is an iTero intraoral scanner for a clear-aligner workflow and an apex locator.
