The hospital
Founded in 1946, Shenzhen People's Hospital is the city's oldest and largest municipal hospital and is rated Grade 3A. It has around 3,060 open beds, operates across five sites, and is affiliated with the Southern University of Science and Technology and Jinan University. It reports more than 3.79 million outpatient and emergency visits in 2024, so expect a busy, high-volume hospital rather than a quiet private clinic.
Dental care
The Dental Medicine Centre is a full-service department. Its public information highlights work in zygomatic implants for patients with no upper teeth, periodontal health, fluoride application for children and dental flossing education, and it is associated with the Shenzhen municipal clinical quality control centre for dentistry. The centre's specialist list includes orthodontists and prosthodontists alongside general dental practitioners. Zygomatic implants are the notable capability here: they anchor into the cheekbone and are an option for people told they have too little jaw bone for conventional implants.
Visiting as a foreign patient
The hospital has published a notice soliciting international medical insurance direct-billing partners, and it has an English version of its website. Do not assume direct billing is in place, though: confirm with your own insurer and with the hospital first, because no insurer names are listed. Book through the hospital's own WeChat account or on arrival, and bring your passport. Translated patient signage is not offered either, so plan on having a Chinese-speaking companion or a translation app with you.
