The hospital
The Hong Kong University-Shenzhen Hospital opened in July 2012. It is fully funded by the Shenzhen government but run on the University of Hong Kong's management model, and became a Grade 3A general hospital in 2017. It holds ACHS international accreditation and is one of Guangdong province's first international medical service pilot hospitals. Phase one has 2,000 beds; a second phase under way will take capacity to 3,000. For an international patient, the appeal is the management model: a Hong Kong-run hospital within mainland China, minutes from the Futian port.
Dental care
The hospital runs a Department of Dental Surgery, with dental surgery listed both among its clinical departments and within the International Medical Center's own specialist team, so dental care is reachable through the international route. This is the strongest English-language option among Shenzhen's public hospitals, and the hospital's site is published in both Chinese and English.
Visiting as a foreign patient
The International Medical Center is in Block V and provides high-end medical and health management services, aimed at Shenzhen residents, cross-border Hong Kong and Macao visitors and foreign nationals. Its services include obstetrics, endoscopy, paediatrics, rehabilitation, reproductive medicine, premium health assessment, a psychological clinic and insurance services, and the hospital also runs Bay Area integration programmes including cross-border ambulances, the Hong Kong Elderly Health Care Voucher scheme and the Hong Kong/Macao drug and device scheme. Appointments are by phone or WeChat, and the hospital sits a short distance from the Futian port with a dedicated shuttle bus. Confirm your insurer's direct-billing eligibility with the International Medical Center before your visit.
