The hospital

Tianjin Medical University General Hospital was founded in 1946 as one of five large central hospitals in China, and is now a Grade 3A general hospital and the designated medical centre for Tianjin. It is a teaching hospital of Tianjin Medical University, with 37 clinical departments, 12 medical technology departments, around 2,468 open beds and a staff of roughly 4,500.

Dental care

The Department of Stomatology was founded in the 1950s by Professor Zhu Xitao, a founding figure in Chinese dentistry. It has 51 medical and nursing staff, including one full professor and 11 associate professors, 32 inpatient beds and 33 dental units, and is divided into oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics and orthodontics. Treatment covers alveolar surgery, dental implants, oral and maxillofacial tumours and trauma, temporomandibular joint disorders, and aesthetic and complete-denture restoration, with more than 350 operations a year.

Visiting as a foreign patient

The hospital runs modular English-language teaching for international medical students, with internal medicine, surgery and anaesthesiology designated as national English-taught brand courses, and one of its maxillofacial surgeons teaches the English-language stomatology course for international students. A dedicated English-language outpatient consultation or interpreter service is not advertised, so it is worth arranging your own interpreter when you book.
