The hospital

Tianjin Stomatological Hospital was founded in 1947 and is a Grade 3A dental specialty hospital, one of the highest ratings in China's hospital classification. It is also the Stomatological Hospital of Nankai University and Tianjin Plastic Surgery Hospital. It has 22 clinical departments and 228 dental chairs, and treats around 1.11 million outpatient and emergency visits a year. Its orthodontics department is a National Key Clinical Specialty, and its dedicated dental centre sits inside the Heping main campus, so your care stays within one site.

Dental care

The hospital runs an International Diagnosis and Treatment Centre as a clinical department in its own right inside the Heping main campus, not a general hospital-wide international wing. It covers restorative dentistry, oral surgery, prosthodontics and orthodontics, and states that it uses German treatment units and fully imported equipment and materials. Its focus areas are microscopic root canal therapy, immediate implants, periodontal care, mucosal disease treatment, and tooth bleaching and whitening. Several of its specialists trained abroad, in Germany, Japan and the United States.

Visiting as a foreign patient

The hospital works by appointment, and it states that bookings made through platforms it does not cooperate with are invalid, so book through the hospital's own channels rather than a third-party site. Bring your passport as photo ID. No page describes English-language consultations, interpreter services or English medical records, so confirm what is available when you book and plan to bring your own interpreter. No insurer list or direct-billing information is published either, so expect to pay directly and claim afterwards if your policy allows.

Practical notes

The centre sits inside the Heping main campus, and the hospital also publishes numbers for its other sites: the Hexi first outpatient department on 022-88357617, the Nankai second outpatient department on 022-27282666, and the appointment line on 022-27111678, which is also the cancellation line. Tianjin is about half an hour from Beijing by high-speed rail, with its own international airport.
