The hospital
Union Hospital is part of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Its English pages describe a history reaching back to 1866 and a present-day network of four campuses with 5,950 licensed beds and 50 clinical and paramedical departments, making it one of central China's principal referral centres.
Dental care
Stomatology is one of roughly 40 specialties covered by the hospital's International Outpatient Department, alongside internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT and dermatology. Dental care for overseas visitors is therefore delivered as part of the international service rather than through a separate stand-alone dental clinic, so it is worth setting out what you need, from a single check-up to implant or orthodontic treatment, when you book. The department's doctors are described as well-known specialists with overseas experience, and it runs a paired doctor-and-nurse model.
Visiting as a foreign patient
The International Outpatient Department opened in January 2015 as the first department of its kind in Hubei Province, dedicated to foreign patients and high-end medical and health services. It occupies the ninth floor of the outpatient building on the main campus, about 1,200 square metres, near Zhongshan Park station on Metro Line 2, Exit C, with branches at the Auto Valley and Jinyinhu campuses. Medical technicians and triage nurses communicate fluently in English, there is a green channel for investigations, and reports are collected and stored for you with follow-up within a week by phone, SMS or email.
