The hospital

Wuhan University School and Hospital of Stomatology, also known as Hubei Provincial Stomatological Hospital, is a tertiary Grade A dental specialty hospital, founded in 1960 and opened in Wuchang in 1962. It runs 450 dental treatment chairs and 115 inpatient beds, with more than 300 mid-level-and-above clinical and technical staff, which makes it one of the largest dedicated dental centres in central China.

Dental care

The dedicated unit for private, high-end care is the Special Needs Department and International Dental Clinic. Physicians are drawn from across the whole hospital on a rotating roster, so virtually every specialty is reachable through the one clinic: endodontics, prosthodontics, implants, oral surgery, periodontics, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry and tooth whitening. The clinic works on an appointment basis with one-stop service, a staff member accompanying you throughout the visit, four-handed dentistry and private treatment rooms, and its in-clinic lines are +86 27 8764 6315 and +86 27 8768 6142.

Visiting as a foreign patient

Bring your passport to register, and consider arranging your own interpreter, as the hospital does not publish an explicit English-language service statement. Non-emergency visits are by appointment with staggered time slots, and there is no published insurer direct-billing list, so plan to settle payment directly and claim with your insurer afterwards if your policy allows.

Practical notes

Appointments are made through the hospital's own WeChat official account, which it states is its only online booking channel and works with no third-party platforms, or through its Alipay account. The hospital's Wuchang campus is in the city centre and easy to reach by metro and taxi. General enquiries for Building 1 are on +86 27 8768 6110 and for Building 2 on +86 27 8768 6290.
